Rules for measuring length

• Start at the front (base line)
• The next one has to touch.
• Stop at the end (or sometimes just before the end.)
• Sometimes there is a little bit left over.

We wondered if we used different things to measure if we could end up with nothing left at the end.

Measurement

• We can measure lots of different things. 
• We measure things in different ways.
• We can measure time in years, months,        weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds.
• We can measure distance in kilometres, metres, centimetres and millimetres.
• We can measure weight (how heavy things are) in kilograms, and grams.
• We can measure volume (how much something holds) in litres, and millilitres.
